Viaje’s Honey & Hand Grenades lines are a new Collector’s Edition size, a 6 x 54 vitola called the Falchion. Released in both a new corojo-wrapped option and the Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper version.
As with other sizes in the line, this new vitola gets its name from a bladed weapon. According to social media posts by the company, it references a one-handed, single-edged sword of European origin that was used around the 13th century. As a tie-in to the origins of the vitola names, each of the previously released vitolas has come in a perfecto vitola featuring a tapered foot designed to look like the point of a blade, while the portion of the cigar below the band has been wrapped in red foil paper designed to mimic blood on the blade after it has been used.
The Honey & Hand Grenades line debuted in 2012, with subsequent releases in 2013, 2016 and 2019. Those versions have used a Nicaraguan criollo wrapper, but he company is switching to a Nicaraguan corojo wrapper for the Falchion.
In 2021, the company added a maduro version, which uses a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper. Both versions use a Nicaraguan binder and filler, and for the Falchion, the company said that the cigars were aged for a full year after production.
The Falchion comes with the Collector’s Edition designation, meaning it will be a one-off size for the line.
